In a major development for fans of the anthology series, Angela Bassett is officially set to return for American Horror Story Season 13, as confirmed by a Halloween teaser from creator Ryan Murphy [1.1, 1.4]. The upcoming season, slated for release around Halloween 2026, is shaping up to be a monumental reunion, with an all-star lineup that also includes returning fan-favorites like Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, and, surprisingly, Jessica Lange, alongside franchise newcomer Ariana Grande [1.1, 1.4, 3.2, 3.3].

Bassett first joined the AHS universe in the fan-favorite Coven as the legendary Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau, and was last seen in the series' eighth installment, Apocalypse [1.1, 1.5]. Her return for Season 13, which marks the first time she and other co-stars like Lange, Bates, and Sidibe have appeared in the franchise since Apocalypse, has been highly anticipated [1.5].

Rumors and Speculation on Bassett's Role

While the cast is confirmed, Ryan Murphy has yet to reveal the official theme or plot details for Season 13, keeping the specific roles for all returning actors a secret [1.1, 1.3, 3.4].

However, the significant presence of cast members who were central to the Coven and Apocalypse seasons has ignited strong speculation that Season 13 may revisit the world of the witches, potentially serving as a sequel or another crossover event [1.1, 1.5, 3.3, 3.7]. The teaser itself ended with Emma Roberts' iconic line from Coven: "Surprise, bitch. I bet you thought you'd seen the last of me," further fueling the "Coven" theories [1.1, 3.3].

When asked about her potential role, Bassett acknowledged the news of her return but teased that she did not yet know who she might be playing [1.3].

The star also commented on her ability to manage her return to AHS alongside her lead role in the network drama 9-1-1. Bassett expressed confidence that they will "work it out," noting that both series share the same creators and executive producers [1.3, 1.7]. She also shared her support and praise for new cast member Ariana Grande, calling her a "delightful human being" and a "hard worker" who will "be just fine" in the AHS universe [1.3, 2.1].
