Entertainment Desk - Buckle up, horror fans—and comedy lovers who missed being able to laugh at horror fans. After over a decade of silence, the masters of the "rebooquel" are back. The first official trailer for Scary Movie 6 (simply titled Scary Movie) has officially dropped, and it’s clear that the Wayans family hasn't lost their edge.

Earlier this week, Marlon Wayans sent the internet into a tailspin by releasing the first look at the long-awaited return. The hype was so immediate that Paramount Pictures has already moved the release date up one week. Mark your calendars: the madness begins on June 5, 2026.

The "Core Four" Are Back

The biggest takeaway from the trailer? The franchise is returning to its roots. For the first time since Scary Movie 2, Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans are steering the ship as writers and producers.

But a Scary Movie isn't a Scary Movie without the ladies who started it all. The trailer confirms the triumphant return of:

  • Anna Faris as the ever-oblivious Cindy Campbell.

  • Regina Hall as the legendary Brenda Meeks (who is already seen screaming at a movie theater screen in the trailer).

  • Marlon Wayans as the smoke-shrouded Shorty Meeks.

  • Shawn Wayans as Ray Wilkins.

What’s Getting Spoofed?

The trailer wastes no time targeting the "elevated horror" era. If you thought M3GAN or Get Out were safe, think again. Key parodies spotted in the footage include:

Movie/Trope

The "Scary Movie" Twist

M3GAN

A dancing robot girl who rips off her face to reveal Ghostface.

Get Out

A "Sunken Place" sequence that looks more like a messy basement party.

Longlegs / Sinners

References to recent supernatural thrillers with a slapstick spin.

Terrifier

A "severed" gift-giving scene that brings back the franchise’s gross-out roots.

Scream VI

A chaotic subway sequence that pokes fun at modern "legacy sequel" tropes.

"We’re gonna make fun of everybody because we’re equal opportunity offenders," Marlon Wayans told Entertainment Weekly. "This is about bringing back comedy the way it used to be."

New Blood and Viral Cameos

While the original cast provides the soul, the production has added some modern heavy hitters. Damon Wayans Jr. and Kim Wayans join the family affair, alongside Saturday Night Live alum Heidi Gardner.

The trailer also seemingly confirms a major rumor: streaming superstar Kai Cenat makes a brief, high-energy appearance, signaling the franchise's move to capture Gen Z and Alpha audiences.

Conclusion

Director Michael Tiddes (a frequent Wayans collaborator) seems to be leaning into the "meta" nature of the genre. With the script tackling "cancel culture" and "safe spaces" head-on, Scary Movie 6 looks to be a loud, unapologetic response to the polished comedies of the 2020s.

As Shorty Meeks looks at the camera in the final frames of the trailer: "We back!"
